Ways You Can Help Greyhound Friends

Greyhound Friends is always in need of supplies (our Wish List is located lower on this page) and donations. Your generosity helps us to care for our greyhounds and for our kennel where they live while they wait for their permanent, loving homes.

Ideas for ways you can help are included below:

Drink Great Coffee and Support Us!

Do you enjoy a good cup of coffee?  If so, check out the Lindsey Coffee Company - www.lindseycoffee.com.  Order your coffee online through Lindsey Coffee Company and $2 for every pound of their Specialty Blend Coffees and their flavored coffees will be donated to Greyhound Friends!  Visit their website for more details and to see their inclusion of Greyhound Friends.

Shop Online at Wellesley Booksmith!

Greyhound Friends has recently become an affiliate member of Wellesley BookSmith!  When you shop online at the Wellesley BookSmith's website by following the link below, a portion of your purchase is donated to Greyhound Friends!  It's easy for you and for us, and every bit helps the hounds.  Click here to shop at Wellesley BookSmith.

Weekly and Monthly Automatic Gift Subscriptions Through PayPal!

We’ve had requests from our supporters for a way to make automatic weekly or monthly contributions.  This option is available through PayPal, and we now offer the ability to contribute from $15/week to $25, $50, or $100/month.

Just go to our “Make a Donation” page, scroll to the bottom and click on the PayPal option you prefer.  You can end the subscription any time by using the “Unsubscribe” button.

Of course you can still make a one-time gift in any amount you choose – just click on the “Donate” button and enter the amount you prefer.

Donate Dog Food to Greyhound Friends - It's Quick and Easy Through PETCO!

As you can expect, Greyhound Friends goes through a huge amount of dog food. Through PETCO's Bottomless Bowl Program, you can order any amount of dog food (single bags to multiple bags) to be delivered to Greyhound Friends on a regular basis – determined by you.  If you're interested in doing something like this for Greyhound Friends, here are the instructions:

Go to www.petco.com

Set up an account

Set up a Bottomless Bowl named "GF Donation" or a similar title of your choice

Choose the product(s) to ship, the delivery timeframe, and the payment method

Add the ship to address and specify it's a gift - a gift message will appear on the packing slip

Include the Greyhound Friends email address ghfriend @ greyhound.org without the spaces around the @) and an email gift notification will be sent

That's it!  This is a great way to help Greyhound Friends at whatever level you are able.  The combination of many such gifts will feed our dogs every day!  Thanks for your consideration of this special program.

NOTE:  Of course, if you'd rather just bring a bag of dog food to the kennel on a one-time basis rather than doing the above regularly scheduled delivery, that gift would be greatly appreciated also.

Support Greyhound Friends with Any of Your Transactions on eBay!

Do you use eBay? Did you know you can help Greyhound Friends when you buy and sell?  Here’s how:

Sell your unwanted items on eBay and donate 10-100% of the final sale price to Greyhound Friends.  You’ll get a tax deduction and a credit on your basic eBay selling fees and we will get a donation.

Buy items listed on eBay to benefit Greyhound Friends.  You’ll get a great deal on whatever you’re looking for, and Greyhound Friends will get funds from your purchase.

Give at checkout, too.  When you shop on eBay you may see us featured in checkout when you pay with PayPal. If you do, donate $1 to help our cause.

Get started today by visiting our dedicated page on eBay http://donations.ebay.com/charity/charity.jsp?NP_ID=26459.

Shaw's Community Rewards Program!

Greyhound Friends is now a member of Shaw's Community Rewards Program.  It's simple to participate!  If you shop at any Shaw's or Massachusetts Star Market on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, use your registered Shaw's Reward Card when you check out. Shaw's will contribute 1% of your eligible Rewards Card purchases made on those days to your designated non-profit organization (Greyhound Friends)!  (Each supporter may select up to 4 participating non-profit organizations to support.)

Here's how to sign-up for the program:

  • Go to www.shaws.com
  • Click on Shaw's Cares - Helping Our Communities
  • Click on Community Rewards
  • Click on Shoppers Login or Register with Your Shaw's Rewards Card link
  • Once you've logged in, click "Sign Me Up"

That's it!  Thanks for helping Greyhound Friends - every little bit helps!

Support Greyhound Friends and We Come to You!

Have your school, club, or organization hold a fundraiser for Greyhound Friends or do a drive for items on our Kennel Wish List, and Greyhound Friends will come to you. We will present an educational program on the history of greyhounds, greyhounds in America, and Greyhound Friends. Included will be the process of adopting a retired racer and bringing him into a home. Accompanying the program will be at least one adopted greyhound. For more information contact Stoddard - smelhado (a) comcast.net.

Looking for People Who Like to Sew

Greyhound Friends has been lucky to receive a donation of some wonderful fabric from a textile company in Canton, MA (Draper Knitting Company).  This fabric will make wonderful dog beds!  We're looking for a few volunteers who like to sew to make up some dog beds for us - both for sale in our store and for the dogs in the kennel.  We also have a need for some quilts we currently have to be cut up and the sides sewn up - to make them a better size for the cages in the kennel.  If you like to sew, have a sewing machine, and would like to help Greyhound Friends with this project, we'd love to have your help.  Volunteers would pick up some of the fabric from the kennel and make up the dog beds at home, returning them to the kennel when complete.  For questions, contact Louise at 508-435-5969 or email Pat, pat (a) greyhound.org.

We are also in need of filling and zippers for the dog beds we're making.  We would be grateful for any donations of either or both of those items.

If you're selling an item on eBay, you can select Greyhound Friends to receive a portion of the proceeds from the sale of your item!  (You determine the amount of the portion to Greyhound Friends).

Second Chances Thrift Shop

Visit our second hand store located at 6 West Central St., Natick, MA.  Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10:00-6:00.   The Shop has been opened by Greyhound Friends as a fundraising effort to support the dogs in our kennel.  There are lots of great items for sale, and the inventory changes constantly.  Come in to say hello and browse the merchandise. Any purchase that you make goes to help support Greyhound Friends.

To donate items or to volunteer to work a few hours at the Shop, contact Louise at ghfriend @ greyhound.org or 508-435-5969.

Volunteering at Greyhound Friends

Greyhound Friends, Inc. is a non-profit organization run with the help of many volunteers. We participate in many community activities and other events on a regular basis and we invite anyone who would like to participate to join us. It is a wonderful opportunity to get to know greyhounds or show off your greyhound and let the dogs be ambassadors of good will. Volunteering is fun and is very rewarding in any capacity. We encourage everyone to give it a try and help out in any number of the activities listed below.

We also are always in need of our "wish list" of kennel supplies.  This includes household items you may be throwing away anyways. Instead donate it to Greyhound Friends.  Our complete wish list is found below.

Volunteer Opportunities Include:

1. Foster Homes:  Caring foster parents are ALWAYS needed. If you would like to foster a greyhound for a few days, a few weeks or a few months let us know. In most cases foster parents are needed for a short time to take care of a dog who has been neutered/spayed or some other medical procedure that needs a little extra attention and care or a temporary shortage of kennel space. Fostering for a few weeks to a month is quite helpful when many dogs are being retired at once and there is not enough room to house everyone at the kennel. Longer term (2-3 months) foster care is required for a dog that may have had extensive medical treatment or is exceptionally shy and needs time in a home with another greyhound and gentle understanding parents. Warning! There is a shortage of foster parents because many of them adopt their wards!

2. Kennel Help: If you would like to help with activities such as grooming dogs, providing socialization and TLC - especially for the shy dogs, taking dogs for runs in our fenced field, taking dogs for walks, assisting the staff with all phases of greyhound care such as laundry, cleaning the cages, and kitchen work, assisting with clerical activities and other kennel chores, call Louise Coleman at 508-435-5969.

3. Transportation: If you would like to help pick up and transport dogs and/or pick up food/donations call Louise Coleman at 508-435-5969 or Barbara Wicklund at 908-874-0508.

6. Help out at Meet and Greets (you don't need a greyhound either)

7. Get the word out by displaying our posters in your town and/or workplace

8. Organize a donation drive

9. Consider Homegift when buying or selling a home.

Kennel Wish List:

1. Carpet - we cut it up for lining the dogs' cages, carpet cutters.  If possible, please deliver carpet in sections measuring 3 x 5 feet.

2. Cleaning Supplies - paper towels, bleach, pine cleaner, liquid dish soap, High Efficiency (HE) laundry detergent (made for front loading washing machines)

3. Blankets - flat sheets and old comforters

4. Vet supplies, bandages, flea and tick dog shampoo.

5. Dog food (Iams, Eukanauba, Pro Plan especially), we definitely use all the food that is donated; canned dog food, rice, olive oil (has lots of nutrients).

6. Office supplies - Mailing envelopes, especially large and padded ones, copy paper, pens, scotch tape, etc..

7. Bird seed - for our large flock of various hungry birds.
